Dima Maleev

Lecturer, Engineering Leadership @ Agoda

Hello! Super happy to welcome you on this platform!

I'm a Associate Director of Engineering at Agoda, and honestly-I'm just a huge nerd about engineering management. With over a decade spent building and leading tech teams, I've figured out that managing engineers isn't about code, it's about people.

During my journey-learning (and sometimes struggling!) to become a better leader - I've realized how crucial it is to share experiences. That's exactly why I've created this engineering management course: to help fellow nerds navigate the jump from engineer to manager without all the stress and confusion.

At So Nerdy, I'll break down real-world engineering management into simple, practical tips and stories. No buzzwords, no jargon-just clear advice on how to lead teams, build trust, and level up your career. Let's make engineering management less mysterious, more fun, and definitely nerdy together!

Community Feedback

Really loved the quality of the videos and materials - super clear and well-structured. The course helped me connect the dots and get a real sense of what the EM role is about from a first-hand perspective. My favorite part was the section on building engineering teams, with modern management insights coming in a close second; both offered timely and thought-provoking insights. A great pick if you're growing into more technical or leadership responsibilities.

The course left a very positive impression. First of all, I liked the online and asynchronous format — it allowed me to go through the material at a convenient time. The lectures are short, to the point, without fluff, and complemented by live sessions and Q&A. What I found especially valuable was getting familiar with the core principles and terminology of engineering management used in large companies. This helped me better structure my knowledge and bring those practices into our small team. Even though I'm not an EM, I felt how understanding the terminology improved my effectiveness as a Tech Lead and Principal Technologist. The course also served as a guide for preparing for interviews and writing my resume for Engineering Manager roles. But the most valuable part — is the community. We're still active in a shared chat with over 100 participants, and we do weekly calls. Many of us are now working in Big Tech (FAANG) in L5–L6 roles or as Engineering Managers. It's inspiring and confirms: the course was truly useful.I recommend it to anyone who wants to grow as a leader — regardless of your formal title.

All the essential information about engineering management is delivered in a short, clear, and structured way. After each topic, you immediately grasp the fundamentals and get materials for deeper learning — extra slides, books, or links to useful resources. The biggest value is the community: you meet like-minded people who share their experience and knowledge. Thanks to that, the learning doesn't stop when the course ends — you keep discovering new ideas and opportunities for growth.

The course is well-structured and provides a solid foundation for growth in the EM direction. All the core areas of the craft were covered – and even a bit more. I definitely recommend it for people who have just started managing others or have one to two years of experience (or want to become EMs). For experienced EMs, it might feel a bit too basic.
